Rwanda is blessed with ideal coffee growing conditions; high altitude, regular rainfall, volcanic soils with good organic structure – and of course an abundance of bourbon coffee!
Nyamulinda was built and established by friends and business partners Immaculate and Francine.
Having spent several years developing a quality coffee crop on their farmland, 2016 saw them take the next step and build their own washing station. These inspirational women are now able to control a further step of their crop’s journey, bringing the same quality ethos to the processing of this beautiful bourbon coffee, which we are thrilled to share with you.
The vast majority of coffee here is produced by smallholders of which there are thought to be around half a million with parcels of land often not much larger than one hectare per family. Coffee is grown in most parts of the country, with particularly large concentrations along Lake Kivu and in the southern province. Rwandan smallholders usually organise themselves into co-operatives who share the services of centralised wet-mills – or washing stations as they are known locally.
