Fresh crop Guatemala is here and we’re thrilled to be back in Huehuetenango, a place we know and love for it’s wonderful people and perfect combination of altitude and climate.
This micro-lot is from Crispin Matias who farms on the outskirts of San Antonio; he’s getting some fantastic results at his seven hectare small holding - Finca La Esmeralda.
Orange, caramel and chocolate notes with a long finish.
‘HueHue’ is an area we know well and somewhere our Guatemalan import partners operate in extensively.
Because of the slightly cooler weather the coffees here take a little longer to ripen but are all the better for it - more sweetness and complexity in your coffee!
This year we have sourced a micro-lot from Don Crispin Matias. Around ten years ago Crispin decided to change his career from shopkeeper to producer, he sold his grocery business and bought a small farm on the outskirts of his hometown San Antonio.
Finca La Esmeralda is a seven hectare farm where Crispin grows oranges, avocado and coffee. Coffee is picked and processed by Crispin and his family. Once picked, ripe cherry is pulped and washed in the morning before being carefully fermented for two days after which it is washed again and soaked before being sun-dried on patios. The results in the cup are delicious!
